Zurich Airport
Qatar Airways flight QR95 from Doha, an Airbus A350-900, “contacted” a parked Embraer ERJ-190 of Helvetic Airways at Zurich Airport, Switzerland. The left-hand wingtip of the A350 struck the rudder of the ERJ-190.

New 737 Max Software Glitch Discovered
The company said the issue involves an indicator light staying on longer than intended. The light is associated with the stabilizer trim system, which raises and lowers the plane's nose. Boeing said the problem was discovered during flight testing of the 737 Max's updated software.

Corona Virus
Barely any of the European Airlines will fly to China right now.
Emirates has announced it would reduce capacity on flights to China.  Emirates will replace the Airbus A380s operating from #Dubai to Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Guangzhou with Boeing 777-300ERs.
Qatar Airways has taken the decision to suspend flights to mainland #China from 3 February until further notice due to significant operational challenges caused by entry restrictions imposed by several countries.

Why not launch a transatlantic airplane not from a shipborne catapult but from a larger airplane already in flight?
Thus were born Mercury and Maia, also known as “the Short-Mayo composite.” It consisted of a 15,000 pound, 74-foot-wingspan airplane (Mercury) with four 365 hp, 16-cylinder, dual-crankshaft engines, planted atop an Empire flying boat (Maia) of about three times the size and horsepower.
