Crash in Dubai
Investigators believe wake turbulence from a landing Airbus A350-900 may have contributed to the fatal crash of a light aircraft at Dubai earlier this month.
The Thai Airways International A350 had been arriving on runway 30R on 16 May, following a service from Bangkok, at around the time that the Diamond Aircraft DA62 crashed. None of the four occupants of the DA62 survived the crash.

New Canada Passenger Compensations
Tired of hearing "No" and "It's our policy"? Fed up with being given the runaround?
Canadian travelers who are bumped from flights due to overbooking, or have to deal with lost or damaged luggage, could soon be eligible for hundreds of dollars in compensation.
Canada announces new rules on airline passenger protection and compensation. Strangely, Smaller airlines, for example, will have to pay less compensation for delays or cancellations that are within the airline's control but are not related to safety issues.
Tarmac delays, flight cancellations, and denials of boarding — that are within an airline's control require compensation to be paid, standards of treatment are upheld and the passenger's itinerary be completed.

Flight disruptions within an airline's control but required for safety reasons will not require compensation but airlines will have to maintain a standard of treatment and complete a passenger's itinerary.
Situations outside an airline's control that cause a flight disruption will only require the airline to ensure the passenger's itinerary is completed.

Shortest Scheduled Flight
Twice a day a plane connects the Orkney Islands Westray and Papa-Westray. The passengers don't have much time to enjoy the view: the route is only three kilometers long.
For the locals, this flight is an everyday occurrence in the Orkney Islands, the archipelago off the Scottish north coast. The Loganair regular flight schedule includes the 1.7-mile flight from Westray to Papa Westray. And whoever has mastered the 2735 meter air distance in a noisy Britten-Norman Islander is a passenger on the shortest scheduled flight in the world. One minute flight time - take-off and landing included. After that, anyone who wants can pick up the certificate with the inscription "World's shortest scheduled air service".

No Distress Calls
Two fatal accidents, both involving Cessna Citation jets, occurred within two days of each other last week. In the first accident on May 22nd, a Citation 550 SII crashed shortly after takeoff from Indianapolis Regional Airport (MQJ) killing the two people aboard.
The 2nd accident on May 24th involved a Citation 560 Encore being flown single pilot, which impacted the waters of the Atlantic Ocean approximately 310 miles east of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, killing the pilot, the only person on board the airplane.

Lilium Electric Jet's First Flight Successful

The five-seater Lilium Jet electric air taxi took off successfully from the airport in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich. Lilium co-founder Daniel Wiegand reported that the one and a half ton prototype had climbed vertically and floated on the spot. Next, "we will fly maneuvers and move on to forward flight." From 2025 on, the air taxis will fly in at least two cities in daily commercial operation.

The airplane with 36 electric jet engines in its wings is quiet and "will be able to fly at 300 kilometers per hour for one hour", Wiegand said. "The Lilium aircraft tends to be cheaper than a helicopter because it has almost no mechanics and consumes only a tenth of the energy.

Founded in 2015, the aircraft manufacturer wants to operate all its aircraft itself, with its own booking platform. "I rule out selling the aircraft to wealthy private individuals or companies. The aim is for many citizens to book flights with us for prices as if they were taking a taxi," said Wiegand. The quiet high-flyers could earn their money in conurbations, but also in rural regions without infrastructure.

On 1 May in Donauwörth, the aircraft manufacturer Airbus first launched its four-seater electric city Airbus with four rotors into the air. It is to fly 50 kilometers to 120 kilometers per hour. The Karlsruhe-based start-up "Volocopter" has even had German traffic approval for a two-seater electric air taxi since 2016 and flew autonomously in Dubai in 2017.  Airbus competitor Boeing made its first test flight with an autonomous air taxi in the US last January.

The wings of the Boeing and Lilium electric air taxis provide lift and greater range.  In contrast, electric air taxis with rotor require less landing area.

The five-seater Lilium Jet, which is based on a two-seater test model, is remote-controlled during the test flights. In operation, the air taxi will initially be flown by a pilot from 2025 on, "which simplifies the licenses and approvals", company boss Wiegand said.

But perhaps in ten years, it will also be able to fly autonomously.

Another MH 370 Theory?
MALAYSIA AIRLINES flight MH370 was a “simple accident” that can be easily explained, according to a private investigator.US pilot and aviation engineer Bruce Robertson claims this was no coincidence.  He suggests the 221kgs of lithium-ion batteries in MH370's cargo caught fire sending a cloud of deadly carbon monoxide into the cabin, forcing Captain Shah to try and save the doomed jet.
