Flying the Washington Coast - Plane or Seaplane

If the word island only makes you think of heat and sand, think again. Think towering Douglas fir trees, deep blue waters, glaciated mountains covered in snow framed against a cloudless sky, the roar of a seaplane, the call of a hawk, the whoosh of a whale. And, OK, maybe some sand.

Flying the San Juan Islands, WA
The first time you see the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington—whether by flight or ferry boat—you will know immediately why this area is called “an inspiration for the senses” and, when you fly it, why it’s a pilot’s paradise.

Seven of the islands, lying only 70 miles NNW from Seattle,
are big enough to have an airport or turf airstrip—or two.

Perfect for Seaplane Flying
Seaplanes provide access to all the islands.  Kenmore Air is the oldest air carrier here, using Cessna Caravans both on and off floats. Why not get your seaplane rating here - it doubles also as a check flight for your license.
